I think this is a little bit of a revival milestone. I'm set up to run some "official" events at TempleCon on February 5-7, 2010 in Warwick, Rhode Island;

TempleCon Minis event list

See events 226, 227, and 228 on that page.

Friday 5:30pm - 7:30pm
Saturday 10am - 12 noon
Sunday 11am - 1pm

So, VOR: The Maelstrom is seeing its first formal, honest-to-goodness gaming convention events since... well since I don't know when.

I have to confess, this is largely because casual wargaming table space at this con is in short supply this year, so the only way to guarantee Bobbicus and I some game time was to set up officially listed events. But the up side is that we now have the ability to accept four more VOR-heads, if anyone else is willing to sign up to throw down. If we get 4 players, I'll pass out some prize support for the three events (and for the overall GP victor) from my sealed stock of old FASA VOR blisters, along with some Iron Wind stuff. It won't be much, but I'm pleased to offer it.

Short story on TempleCon, this steam-punk/retro-futurism/gaming convention is amazingly well run. Its geared towards gamers in the 21+ age range; nicer hotel, nicer amenities, entertainment offered etc. without the focus on stereotypical gamers. It's quite the visual spectacle, as a quick visit to their website will show you. They also do some more unusual events for gaming-adjacent interests; for example, I'm signing up for one or two of the scotch-tasting seminars.

As to costs, the hotel rooms are in a very nice Crowne Plaza, are less than $100 per night, and allow quad occupancy. The convention pre-reg is $35 for a three day pass, and event-specific registrations are no charge. This is incredibly affordable. I urge you to check out TemplCon, and come join us!

Bobbicus, they told me that its about 50:50 odds of having terrain on-site for these timeslots. If you have any terrain you can bring along, please do so. I don't have much terrain, but what I do have, I will bring. If anyone else decides to come, please consider packing a couple-three favorite terrain pieces.

Now, time to go put the squeeze on some more locals to pull out their VOR armies, and show up for this.

As far as minis go, I'm bringing Bluefang, Razorback, Shard, Zykhee, and possibly Union armies, all fully painted (hopefully somewhat decently). Any folks from this forum are more than welcome to use them if you can't/don't want to cart your own up.

WARNING: ARMIES PROVIDED BY BOBBICUS WILL BE BASED ON FLUFF AND FUN FACTOR, NOT SHEER WINNING POWER. I'm doing my best to not bring sucky forces, but munchkins probably won't be too happy with what I bring. ;)

As far as terrain goes, I can bring scratch-built stuff. Won't look so purty, but I've got a bunch of urban themed things, tank traps, barbed wire sections, destroyed walls and the like. I've got mats if we need them, too. I could probably get the club to construct some jungle terrain.

Look forward to seeing people there!

I've got a third player enlisted, Bobbicus. An old friend of mine now works at the Navy War College in Newport, RI. Yes, he's a intel/tactics instructor. To further the stereotype, Yes, he plays Union (and Growlers). Expect to lose... ;)

I'm finishing up the last of the growlers... I dropped one of the bluefang pups and he decided to pull the old "go flying off in a direction that defies physics then disappear until after the event you need him for." Little bastard.
